This small town between the sea and the Velebit Mountains is located on an important crossroads where the Adriatic highway runs from Rijeka to Dubrovnik, leading to the mainland towards Gospić, Plitvice Lakes and Zagreb. Karlobag is a wonderful blend of the Mediterranean and the continent, where the sea is crystal clear and the most beautiful mountain in Croatia are only a few minutes’ drive away.
The town’s turbulent history is visible in the ruins of a medieval fortress above the town - Fortica and several churches. In the Capuchin monastery that has the church of sv. Josip [St. Joseph] there are literary and art treasures, and especially important is a picture of the Last Supper by an unknown author.
Velebit Nature Park and the beauty of the Croatian mountains, hangs over two beautiful gems - Paklenica National Park on the mainland, and Starigrad, a nice and quiet town by the sea, the centre of the Paklenica Riviera.
Guests who want diversity can really enjoy themselves here - Starigrad and the sea, Paklenica, Velebit and miles of pebbly beaches. Starigrad is located on the Adriatic Highway, and the Paklenica National Park can be reached from the sea by small ships and boats.
