Beaches and restaurants you can reach on foot or within a three-minute drive.
A beautiful wild cove right below the village of Zaraće. A wide beach of pebbles and fine sand, sheltered from the waves by a long cliff and rocky reefs.
Located right on Velo Zaraće beach and open every day from 9:00 to 21:00. A big advantage is the large car park above the cove that belongs to the restaurant — if you have lunch or dinner there, you can park for free all day. After driving down to the sea, turn left and follow the road all the way to the car park.
A spacious terrace right above Velo Zaraće beach with a beautiful view of the sea. The friendly and entertaining owner Toni is an excellent cook, serving mostly fish specialities from the local sea. For an exceptional dinner made from the freshest ingredients, arrange it with Toni a day ahead — everything can be sorted out by phone, but we recommend stopping by in person, having a homemade grappa with him and agreeing on the exact fish menu for the next day.
On foot, take the shortcut past the chapel of St. Nicholas: below the village, cross the main road (Stari Grad – Hvar) and follow the path down past the chapel. After a while you will join a narrow road leading into the cove.
Another gorgeous cove in wild nature, just 200 metres from Velo Zaraće. Walk past the small stone church (Chapel of the God of Health) above the beach — metal and stone steps lead down to the sea. The cove hides several small pebble beaches surrounded by large boulders that offer more privacy, and the crystal-clear sea shimmers in every shade of turquoise and indigo.
Trip tips
From the nearest beaches to full-day trips — sorted by distance from the house.
A beach and a spot with a wonderful atmosphere — one of the prettiest pebble beaches on the island of Hvar. Clean sea, historic stone architecture, a few fishermen's houses, a small church, a family-run restaurant and a cosy beach bar with well-rated food and drinks and Dalmatian specialities. Park your car or scooter at the roadside car parks above the beach; the walk down to the sea takes about 10 minutes. The beach is of course accessible by boat too.
A spectacular natural phenomenon on the southern coast of Hvar, between the bays of Dubovica and Pišćena. Fitter visitors can reach it by sea kayak from the Sveta Nedjelja marina or, from the other side, from Velo Zaraće bay. Pick a calm day with a flat sea and no strong wind, which often blows along the south coast. The paddle is well worth the effort — only by kayak can you slip right into the heart of the red cave. Swimming in the lagoon framed by red, brown and yellow rock is an unforgettable experience. For a more comfortable option, book a skippered trip from Hvar. 😊
A renowned konoba — an old stone restaurant with a great atmosphere and reputation. Its speciality is the peka: veal and lamb, or octopus, baked under an iron bell covered with hot embers. The dish takes a long time to prepare, so arrange it a day in advance. On hot summer days the best time to arrive for dinner is after 19:00, when the terrace is already in the shade.
A great restaurant with a small marina on the island's southern coast, owned by the excellent Plenković family winery. Their superb wines age in cellars below the sea surface, and you can buy them to take home right at the restaurant. A memorable experience.
A truly unique climbing base right by the sea. By arrangement you can visit and climb one of the prepared routes, or book an ascent of Croatia's most famous via ferrata. Drive about 10 minutes to the village of Sveta Nedjelja and park there. Then either walk below the cliffs along the sea, or call ahead and they will pick you up by boat at the marina by the Bilo Idro restaurant.
Near the village of Sveta Nedjelja there are three via ferratas, created by Miro Štec, who together with his friends built a via ferrata park high in the cliffs above the village. The views from the top down are breathtaking, and from the bridge the drop straight below is dizzying. Via Mirko is graded B/C, Via Avalon A/B and Barbara B. On the way down, don't forget to stop at the rock church of Spilja Svete Nedjelje.
One of the most fascinating tourist destinations in the world. The town with the longest tourism tradition in Europe — celebrating 158 years of organised tourism in 2026 — home to the oldest theatre in Europe and many historical monuments. Enter “Parking Hvar” into your sat-nav.
Take a day trip to the gorgeous islets just about 20 minutes by boat from the Hvar waterfront. Park at the Hvar town car park (at most 12 minutes from Zaraće) and cross the promenade to the riva, from where dozens of small boats leave for the islands every day. We recommend the island of Palmižana: stroll through the lovely open botanical garden, swim in the crystal-clear lagoon of Vinogradišće cove and eat at one of the restaurants and bars. The return transfer from Hvar usually costs just 10 euros and you can stay on the island until late afternoon.
The oldest ancient town in Croatia, more than 2,400 years old. An important town of ancient Greece with a rich history and plenty to offer today — restaurants, museums, historical monuments and the fortified residence Tvrdalj of Petar Hektorović. Enter “Stari Grad parking” into your sat-nav.
Visit picturesque Vrboska, known as the Little Venice of the island of Hvar.
Visit a beautiful seaside town on the island's northern coast.
Drive up to the island's highest hill (626 m above sea level). At the top stands the chapel of St. Nicholas from 1487, with a breathtaking view over a large part of Hvar and the surrounding islands — the sunsets here are especially beautiful. You can drive almost all the way to the summit; hikers can choose from several routes of varying difficulty and length.
An excellent authentic restaurant with local specialities in the village of Vrisnik — a gem above the sea.
Visit the private botanical garden near the village of Gdinj — more than 80 species of Hvar's wild flora in seven themed fields.
An excellent restaurant with a beautiful terrace right by the sea. Nearby lies a lovely pebble beach in Pokrivenik cove.
Shopping
The nearest larger shopping centre is only an 8-minute drive from our car park in Zaraće, right opposite the Stari Grad ferry port. The complex includes a large, well-stocked supermarket with a small fish market offering a rich daily selection of fresh fish and seafood at pleasant prices. Right next to the supermarket there is a DM drugstore, three more household-goods shops and the Island bar café. There is a large free car park by the store.
